I devised this elegant cabinet to serve 21st century needs in 19th century style. It holds an electronic keyboard, television, telephone, condo security, copious storage, as well as secret storage compartments. Designed and executed in collaboration with Seattle designer/architects Elisabeth Beers and Norman Sandler. Winner of the 1992 Award of Excellence for Special Projects given by the Washington State Chapter of ASID.

This table is a reinterpretation of my Antelope table that was designed in 1994. It was an exercise to see if I could take the contemporary form of the original and apply some western flavor, it ended up being totally different by the time I was finished.
The table is made of Zebra wood , Sapele, Ash , and Curly Ash veneer.

Biedermeier Goes Fishing
Koa, Wenge, Camphor Burl & Ebony

In creating the design for this table I drew upon my interest in the history of furniture design, my experiences as a Hawaiian archaeologist, and my love of this land and surrounding sea.

The table’s basic form and use of materials echoes the ethos of the Biedermeier Style of furniture made in Hawaii during the 19th century: clean lines, minimal ornamentation and use of locally available materials.

Drawing upon my work as an archaeologist, I incorporated the form of the fish hook. I chose camphor burl veneer on the base to mimic the sunlight mottling corals on the ocean floor. Spilling down the pedestal are sheets of wenge veneer like lava spilling over the lands edge. Lava, the base of these island, supports the table top, a top containing rocks of the seashore and koa of the highlands.

Featured Artist - David Kiernan
David Kiernan

David became a furniture maker and designer after becoming frustrated with the lack of creativity in his first career of engineering. After an intensive two years studying at the Worcester Center for Crafts in Massachusetts , he started his own furniture business in Rhode Island and has never regretted it.

David's work is contemporary and original in it's design and use of color. He often challenges himself with unusual materials such as patinated metals, unique wood veneers, and even stone. Ultimately his desire is to create something both beautiful and functional, something that delights the eye but still has a purpose. The simplicity of line and seamless blending of pattern and solid surfaces, occasionally accented by a splash of vibrant color makes his work stand out in a crowd.

Currently, he works in limited production and one of a kind studio pieces which are shown across the country and sought after by collectors and galleries alike.

"My work allows me to have fun, and to sit back at the end of the day with a sense of satisfaction that I have created something that is both useful and beautiful."

Earl Kelly

Florida craftsman Earl Kelly was always interested in art and making things, but it wasn't until he began working at a furniture store that he became fascinated by the the diversity and variety of furniture and how it related to both function, design and artistic impact.

Earl also developed a strong appreciation of quality of craftsmanship, which today he applies in his own furniture. His pieces are distinctive in their unique design aspects and are both organic and elegant as well as being built to last for generations. He is not afraid to add a delightful twist to his designs, but still showcase the beauty of the natural materials.

His award winning furniture is currently shown in galleries and Furniture Shows across the country.

Step Tansu by Paul DeWitt
Step Tansu
A beautiful and functional storage inspired by Japanese Tansus,
made from Cherry, Curly Maple, and Aromatic Cedar.

"This was a labor of love for our own home. We have a 1.5 story home meaning we have some interesting ceiling lines on the top floor. While this piece would often be placed along a staircase, I designed it to fit in an unused space of our top story hallway. As a bonus the placement keeps us from bumping our heads on the low ceiling." -Paul DeWitt

Writing Table by Alan Rosen

Bubinga (Reptilian Rosewood) Writing Desk
A beautiful writing desk made from a stunning figured wood.

"There is a story to the name of the wood here. I had been working through about 1000 board feet of rough-cut Bubinga for a large job and noticed about a dozen pieces that looked different. Because they were rough-cut, I couldn't tell what the grain was like, but I put them aside to check out at a later date. About a year or two later, I pulled out some of the odd boards and when I put them through the planer I was amazed at the figure in the wood. But it was only after I put finish on the wood that the three-dimensionality of the grain became evident; it reminded me of snakeskin and  I coined the phrase Reptilian Rosewood." - Alan Rosen

Georgi Mav Leaf Side Table
Cherry, Australian lace wood
21" x 40" x 20"

The Georgi Mav Leaf Side Table was named after a high school friend that died very young of breast cancer. She was beautiful through and through, absolutely guileless. It was important to me that this table was to be one of my best. It was. It won the 2002 NICHE Award and garnered national recognition.
