Artist Biography
For me, chair making is the pinnacle of furniture making. Not only must it be comfortable but aesthetically pleasing as well. My chairs have a similarity in shapes. Viewed horizontally, the wood lines form a trapezoid (one pair of parallel lines and one pair of non parallel lines) in the negative spaces that formed. These spaces change as you walk around the piece. As you approach the seat and your view becomes more vertical, the linear shapes turn into ellipses in the shape of the seat, opening up as your eye moves to the arms and finally, the crest rail has opened to an arc.
I have pieces in the lobby of the Washington Athletic Club, and The Sunset Club on Capitol Hill in Seattle, The Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon , and in many prominent West Coast homes. |
