Artist Biography

Alan Rosen was born and raised in New York City and served his first apprenticeship there in 1971 doing antique reproductions and repairs. This gave him an exposure to traditional joinery and classical designs, as well as invaluable insight into how and why pieces fail and an understanding of wood movement. He worked with another master woodworker in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and then started his own business in 1974.

Besides designing and crafting his own ideas, Alan loves working closely with clients to create personalized furniture for them and their environment. From the careful selection of materials, his high level of joinery and trademark fine finish, Alan produces one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality furniture.

His shop is on Lummi Island where he lives with his wife and daughter.
