Fine Furniture by Ken Richards

Sculpture Tree
Cuban Mahogany, Ebony
36" W 92" H 54" W
I designed this piece for clients with a large art collection. They wanted to display items like sculptures and art glass. The piece is designed to sit in the corner of a large room. It wraps around the corner and provides a lot of display space for a fairly small footprint. There are 11 platforms of
various sizes. I tried to lay out the platforms such that they would display a large variety of shapes and sizes of art. Please contact the artist for more information.

Artist Biography

Ken has been a professional woodworker for 30 years. His work has been featured in books and magazines and exhibited at a number of prestigious organizations including the Northwest Fine Woodworking gallery and the Bellevue Art Museum. He was also profiled in the TV series Modern Masters.

Ken lives on 5 acres In Maple Valley, Washington with his wife and an assortment of pets and livestock. His studio is on the property with windows looking out on pastures and a small pond that is alive with wild birds and ducks.

Ken works alone and approaches each project with the attitude of an artist. He prefers to avoid repeating designs – focusing rather on the challenges and rewards that come from developing new designs and skills. Much of the time in his studio is now spent working with hand tools. He enjoys not only the peace and focus that come with this kind of work, but also believes it promotes a more intimate relationship with his projects.

Ken’s work is much more than a job to him. "I feel very fortunate to spend my days doing work that I love". This passion for the work is obvious in the pieces he produces. You see it in the fine detailing, and you feel it as your hand reaches out instinctively to caress the flowing surfaces.
