Artist Biography
Tom Lederer founded Lederer Studio in the summer of 1978 in an effort to provide fine furniture, wood carving and sculpture to individuals who appreciate art furniture and originally designed pieces. Tom has studied classical wood carving with Master Carver Ian Agrell, sculpture with Ian Norbury, apprenticed with Allen Rockwell of New Hope, Pa, and worked for Master Designer/Craftsman Phil Powell of New Hope , Pa.
His approach is timeless, and his original designs are a synthesis of enduring traditional styles including Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau. His emphasis is on simplicity and subtle elegant lines. Tom believes that a piece of furniture or art should stand the test of time, both in structure and enduring design, while at the same time retaining its uniqueness and artistry.
Only the best hand selected materials, construction techniques, and hardware are used at Lederer Studio. The focus is on structure, fine select materials, elegant lines, fine carving, and beautiful finishes. All furniture is constructed using domestic and exotic hardwoods and veneers, while executing traditional fine joinery techniques to include mortise and tenon, mitre-spline, etc.
