Artist Biography

Jonathan Cohen studied graphic design at Cornell, spent several years working his way around the world on a Norwegian cruise ship, and settled in Seattle in the late 70's. For the last thirty-one years, he has built a national reputation through shows and galleries across the United States.

I very much enjoy working directly with my clients and interweaving our ideas into the furniture they dream of having. The challenge and the delight come in combining the functional imperatives of the piece, the aesthetic sensibilities of both my clients and myself, and the beauty and the spirit of the wood. Clarity in design is as important to me as flawless technique. The goal is to create superlative furniture both in form and in function. In the design, I work to balance delicacy and strength. Simplicity and elegance. Serenity and passion.
