Artist Biography
Born in Montana, I grew up in Idaho, raised my family there and now I am back living in Helena, Montana, with my wife Maureen. My love of wood has been lifelong. After pursuing degrees in philosophy and art I opened Timothy's Fine Woodworking in 1982 and have been handcrafting fine furniture and cabinets ever since. My work can be seen at Legends Fine Wood Furnishings in Whitefish, Montana.
As a woodworker I am largely self-taught. However, I have learned much from studying the work and writings of Sam Maloof and George Nakashima as well as sharing ideas with the many fellow woodworkers I have met along the way. I am currently president of the Helena Woodworkers Guild.
I believe wood retains the spirit of the living tree. I try to honor this spirit. I hope my art that people use everyday helps them reconnect to the spirit of the natural world.
